Top 5 TV Pilots
With the upcoming season of new TV shows, we at Based on Nothing have decided to create a list of our favorite TV show pilots. To us, a great pilot gives off the potential of the entire series, leaves the watcher wanting more, and shows the viewer something that they’re missing. Granted, there are many, many pilots we would love to put on this list but sometimes you gotta make some cuts....

Cheese: Why I Don't Like It and Why You Can't Stop...
More than a month ago I promised a blog detailing reasons why someone could hate cheese, and I blew it off. I tend to do that a lot. Normally it’s due to outside stresses and self inflicted time crunches, but this was different. I was asked to explain something I didn’t completely understand. Why I hate cheese. I have no idea why I hate cheese, I just do. I always have and I...

Jacob's Best of 2011 List
Best of 2011 2011 was a hell of a year. There is the personal side- met Ben Gibbard and Andrew McMahon, college, survived, but that is not why we’re here- and there is the entertainment side. Started a podcast. THAT is why we are here. I hate top ten lists. They are tedious and hard to make. They are just a tad bit obnoxious, just like this one, but sure, they’re fun. For the most part. I cannot...

Mal Thoughts for Episode 25: Greatest Hits/Season...
Mal Thoughts is a weekly column from our dearest friend Mal. She gives us notes, opinions, and quite often makes fun of us. This one is for episode 25: Greatest Hits/Season Finale.
- This Harp-0 intro is better than almost any other tiny segment of the show.
- I wish you guy’s would talk about fashion.
- Spenser just compared BON to Facebook and that comparison really speaks for...

Dear Dan Harmon: An Open Letter
About three weeks ago Spenser asked me to write you an open letter on behalf of the podcast and the Community fandom in general. I’m hardly the person to take on this task, I can barely speak for the few of us involved with this podcast, let alone the fandom at large. So I’m not going to. Instead I’m going to attempt to put some words on a screen in an attempt to convey my own...

My Top 10 Albums of 2011

Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto
Is there really a band that came after 2000 as popular as Coldplay? Maybe it’s their cool appeal, their non-obnoxious singles, or the fact that his year’s album Mylo Xyloto is ALMOST like Milo Spenser. Almost. I knew plenty of the tracks from Mylo from watching the various live streams of concerts this year, but it was still fantastic to hear them the...

Howard Dean: On the Byah Heard Round the...
On probably Monday or Tuesday, I am going to text Spenser and say excitedly “turn on CNN, Herman Cain is going down!” I can’t wait. Its going to be fantastic. Right now he’s in the death rattle. Plagued by weeks of sexual harassment claims, his campaign is all but over. Before the Iowa caucus in January, the official start of the nomination process, he will drop out, and as...

The Muppets Review
Yesterday, Spenser and I saw The Muppets. And boy was it well worth ten bucks. This movie was great in many respects. It had me laughing, crying, and laughing until I cried. It was a perfect feel-good movie and was just all around heart warming, fitting for the holiday season. The musical numbers were catchy and just oh so stuck-in-your-head-for-days worthy. Some of my personal favorites include...

Mal Thoughts for episode 21 "21 and Invincible"
Mal Thoughts is the thoughts from a girl named Mal as she listens to our podcast. This time she’s listening to episode 21.
You’ve been at this over half a year! It seems like so much longer than that. Not in a good way.
That was some Lost number twisting right there Jacob. Surprisingly all of your math was right and I didn’t have to correct it.
Alright? 6 our of 10?! I feel...

Mal Thoughts for episode 20 "The Week in 43...
Mal Thoughts returns this week after an episode hiatus! She reviews the latest episode “The Week in 43 Minutes.” Monday
Like the concept, but if you do another “theme” episode next week you’ll be getting dangerously close to Glee level theme dependency. #rehashingjokesIusedamonthago
If you guys are only recording a few minutes every day, can I just only write out...

Mal Thoughts for Episode 16 "Mal."
Mal Thoughts is a weekly write-up of commentary on the latest episode of Based on Nothing. It’s written by our dear friend Mallory who was a guest star in episode 16 ”Mal,” named after her.

Mal Thoughts for Episode 15.
If you haven’t already caught on, Mal Thoughts is a weekly write-up of that week’s episode from our dear friend Mal!
Only took until episode 15 to get a completely natural unprovoked Lost reference and I loved it.
It was Moses on the mountain, according to the internet and since I’ve never read the bible I’m going to trust it.
Honest to god I would love to be Dan...
